Hello friends!
Alongside Cumberland Development Custom Homes, my family and I have begun a new venture in grass fed and finished beef. This new journey began with the purchase of Willows Farm in Union Bridge, MD and has continued with the development of our beef program. We currently have 22 steers, 20 heifers (recently bred to a quality Wagyu bull), and four steers we will harvest and process this month. We are also developing our own Wagyu bull from quality (tasty) bloodlines, whom we have named Forrest.
My values and principles for farming beef are as follows: raising high quality, healthy, & happy animals on 100% grass for their whole lives, to produce the best quality meat you can find from a trusted source. Our farming principles are regenerative and free of unnecessary chemicals. That means we move cows daily from pasture to pasture (we have 15 thriving grass pastures) to allow the ground and grass to recover and stay strong. It also means we save several pastures on the back half of the farm for winter grazing. This keeps the cows well fed through the winter without needing to supplement with grains that are inevitably high in sugar and not found in a cow's diet as nature intended. Our farm also has well established hay pastures that allow us to produce excellent quality grass hay for our animals to ensure they want for nothing all winter long. One principle we are sticking to is "ALL GRASS, ALL THE TIME. GUARANTEED!"
So, why would I start a new business after a successful legacy in the custom home building industry?
First, farming is a joyful and fulfilling path. Becoming a steward of the land has brought me great value and peace. During the pandemic we faced a struggle to find good, nutritious, and TRUSTED food to put in our freezer. During that time I also dove into what kinds of food were most beneficial to my health, which you may know has not always been picture perfect. I learned about the incredible health benefits of grass finished beef. I learned about the process of regenerative agriculture that benefits both the land and the animals raised this way. I learned the importance of being able to meet and speak to and trust the farmer that raises my food. I also learned that I could do this myself, and began seriously working toward that goal- which brings us to now!
Willows Farm Beef Company is now proudly offering beef shares. They were humanely raised and cared for on our farm. They have never been fed any growth hormones or GMO feeds. All grass, all the time. We will have more shares available in August, and you can call me to sign up to get those now!
